For thousands of years, people around the world have been utilizing amethyst crystals for various reasons, with the ancient Greeks using amethysts to keep them sober while the Chinese used amethysts to improve a person’s wealth, according to Feng Shui teachings.
It has also been said that the amethyst can rid the mind of negative thoughts and improve imagination and intuition. The amethyst can also calm a person down, including those who are temperamental.
The amethyst is a type of quartz crystal that contains manganese and iron and can be found in rocks resulting from volcanic eruptions. Amethyst deposits are found around the world, including in Brazil and the United States. Closer to home, amethysts rock deposits are found in Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
The name amethyst derives from the Greek word ametusthos, which means “not intoxicated,” and apparently came from the name of a woman who was a victim of the Greek god of wine Bacchus’ revenge plan.
Legends aside, the amethyst is also among many crystals used in crystal healing therapies.
It is best to place the amethyst on the third eye or crown chakras, where the amethyst can stimulate the recipient’s cognitive perception.
